Welcome to DHolgate.com
My
fascination with painting, and in particular the painting of letters and
numbers, began in high school. When sitting in traffic with my parents
as a young boy, I was always fascinated at the lettering and pinstriping
I saw on semi-trucks. I thought they looked TEN times more cool than the
most valuable piece of art on the planet!
Back
then there were a few sign artists in my neck of the woods. Although I
would have had better luck striking gold in my backyard than getting them
to show me how to paint, I asked for their help anyway.
In 1988 I bought a couple of brushes and began painting and pinstriping everything I could get my hands on. Since then, I have become quite proficient at lettering and pinstriping. I have lettered many things ...trucks, race cars, signs, antique signs, and other varied and paintable objects. Although the trucks and race cars brought some degree of satisfaction, they fail in comparison to the passion I feel for painting antique signs and mail boxes.
When
I'm painting these old timey signs and decorative mail 
boxes,
I can almost feel myself drift back to a time when things were more simple
(and almost always more genuine).
